Tom van Lent began his cello study with Monique Bartels. At a young age we joined the special program for young artists at the Royal Conservatory, the Hague. Hier he remained with Ms. Bartels. He was a winner at several competitions, such as the International Charles Hennen Concours and the Princess Christina Concours.
Tom is a cellist for the Residential Orchestra of the Hague.

Later he began his first phase study with Dmitri Ferschtmann and Gregor Horsch, the latter with whom he completed his second phase study.

With Anner Bijlsma and Jaap ter Linden Tom explored the cello suites of Bach. His interest in other musical styles resulted in a tour with dance group Djazzex and Ernst Reijsiger. Tom is also a member of the Nimbus Music Collective (with which he has made several recordings) and the Surmenian String Project. He was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and substitutes often in various orchestras. In 2002 Tom was accepted into the Orchestra Academie of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
