Alfrun  Schmid

Member of: trio scordatura

Alfrun Schmid was born in Germany, and first studied violin in Munich. She started her vocal studies with Anne Haenen at the Conservatory in Enschede, the Netherlands, and continued studies with Charles van Tassel and Cora Canne Meijer at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Alfrun is especially interested in early music and contemporary repertoire. She has sung roles in operas such as Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Messagiera/Proserpina in Monteverdi's Orfeo, Polly in Weill's Die Dreigroschenoper and Bess in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. Apart from performing in the common oratorio repertoire (Bach, Mozart and others) she frequently works together with young, mostly unknown composers. As a soloist she has performed with the Asko/Schönberg Ensemble which specialises in contemporary music. Besides her career as a singer, Alfrun conducts two chamber choirs in Amsterdam.
