Jacob Plooij is an Australian-born violinist with a extremely diverse and colourful musical background, currently living in The Netherlands. Having completed his Bachelor of Music degree in Hobart, Tasmania in 1996, Jacob moved to Sydney where he began a full time performing career performing with Australian Chamber Orchestra, and Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.

He was leader of Australia’s then foremost electro-acoustic ensemble; The Electra String Quartet, and performed with dancers from the Australian Dance Theatre on the roof of the Sydney Opera House for the Millenium broadcast.

In 2000, Jacob moved to The Netherlands where he has continued his creative development and has successfully established himself as a frequently sought after chamber musician, session violinist and performer. From 2001 to 2007, Jacob was second violinist with Holland’s only “100% contemporary music” string quartet, The Zephyr Kwartet.

Jacob’s musical diversity has manifested itself in performances and recordings with many Ethnic and Rock/Pop projects, including, Weshm ( a Dutch based Marrocan/Persian music ensemble), Powderfinger, Amy MacDonald, Tim Knol, as soloist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (Dvaorak Violin Concerto) International tours with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, On stage in the Australian Opera's produciton of Wozzek, Countless movie scores, Zapp! String Quartet and the list goes on...

Outside of, but not excluding his musical participation, Jacob is an avid contributor to the organization of many Art and Culture events in Amsterdam, the most notable being the KlankKleurFestival and the Museum of the Bohemian
